Where we be now.

As this blog is primarily for family and friends, I suppose it is time to update our location!

Well we sit here at Wheeloock having enjoyed a lovely meal at the San Marko Italian restaurant.  Highly recommended, food fairly reasonably priced, but beer & wine a tad on the pricey side.  The sun is shining and all is good with the world.  Ok, a little vino does help!

So, when we last updated we were sitting on the Macc at Hall Green, just for a change, in the rain.  We had aimed for this location for a couple of reasons. There are good moorings here, and we had arranged for the NW Beta engineer, Chris Jones to attend for the 1,000 hour service on the engine. Chris did the last service and such a throughly nice chap deserves support, so we booked him for this one.  As we arrived at Hall Green so early on Thursday, Chris came out the same afternoon and completed the service.

We were happy to stay on Friday as the weather was abysmal, but when the rain desisted around lunch time, we upped pin's and moved off.  Big mistake!  We had only passed the stop lock prior to Hardings Wood junction, when the heavens well and truly opened once again.  We carried on turning onto the Trent & Mersey Canal, down the locks to Church Lawton, where we moored. And then dried out!

Today broke damp but that strange orange orb was visible so we moved off by 0830.  The locks on the T&M are somewhat easy after the broad canals and as most on our journey north are duplicated, we moved on with no hold up's.  That said, why oh why do some people empty full locks,  when the adjacent lock is in their favour?  And this was not just holiday hirers !  One couple told us they preferred using the right hand lock going down, so bugger anyone else!  Rant over!
